My beautiful basset that I adore has an unusual habit. Evry day before bed she licks what she is lying on. When she takes naps & when she sleeps at night, she does this licking ritual. She licks for 10 mins or so & makes a huge wet spot. She’ll lick the sofa or her dog pillow. Anyone w/ other bassets/dogs that do this or any nightly ritual your pet does before bed?

None of my bassets have ever done that.
I have never seen a dog do that and I’ve cared for a lot of dogs in my years working at kennels and doggie daycare. Is she perhaps obsessing over the cleanliness of her bed? Maybe try washing her bed once a week and see if it helps. If that doesn’t work, you can try to figure out why she does it by offering her a damp towel or changing the temperature of her sleeping area or something. I’m really not sure. That’s something I’ve just never encountered.
