He is not having accidents he is marking. There is a huge difference. This is a behavior issue not a re training for potty breaks. I would throw the curtains away. As for the bed you will never be able to get rid of the odor. No matter what you use he will still smell it. I would not allow him in this room as he is claiming his territory. You need to leash him to your side at all times until you break him of this behavior if you want him to stop.

He is marking.

Wash the curtains and bedding, and close the door to the room.

supposedly there are, but i've not heard of them working.. dog seems to just be a little upset . maybe just close the door to that room until he gets used to not peeing in there? he's probably just sad that the family member is gone..and this is the only way he can explain his feelings? don't be upset with him.. maybe take him for longer walks?

An absent family member IS a big issuer for a dog. I have a similar issue with a pup who will be 1 yr April 1st, but no absent family member--a new one--3 month old grandchild. My pup came here to live at just 9 weeks, and during training, I only had ONE poop on the floor, she asked from nite one to go out. She had run of the house by the time she was 3 & 1/2 months, and was SO good. Now the last two months, she has been pooping on an area rug behind the baby swing, and piddling, too. I've come down to total retraining, and it's working, although I don't trust her yet. Her favorite place, "box," behind the kitchen door is now referred to as "jail," and if she plops one, she goes to jail for the afternoon with the poop in a baggie in there with her. At nite, she sleeps by my bed on a blanket. Now I put a leash on her so she won't run downstairs and poop. I don't know of any sprays, and wouldn't use them around a baby anyway. I'm just hoping for the best--retraining and "verbal" discipline plus "jail" seem to be working. She used to tell me with a "woof" when she had to go out, and quit doing that. The "woof" is coming back, but I have to make sure she gets put out and actually does her business before I let her come back in. I would suggest starting over with the potty training. I've been at it faithfully for about 3 weeks.

Absolutely not. Dogs live in kennels all over Europe and the rest of the world and they are better adjusted then the dogs that live in homes and act as couch ornaments!
I must say though...the couch in the kennel is a bit too much!
Hope I helped!
